ASM-40 Ver. 1.0 V.54 Loopback Tests 4-1
Chapter 4
Troubleshooting and
Diagnostics
This chapter contains procedures for performing system diagnostic tests for
ASM-40. Use the test procedures provided in this chapter to:
• Verify normal system operation
• Isolate faulty equipment
• Identify other sources of system malfunction.
Tests are activated by the pushbuttons on the ASM-40 front panel and monitored
via LED indicators. For description of ASM-40 controls and indicators and their
functionality, see
Chapter 3
.
4.1 V.54 Loopback Tests
ASM-40 supports several types of loopbacks for evaluating the operation of the
data system equipment and line circuits. Using these loopbacks, you can test
communication between the attached equipment, internal circuitry of the local
ASM-40 and remote ASM-40.
Loopback tests are best performed in the following order:
1. Local analog loopback
2. Remote digital loopback
3. Local digital loopback.
Before testing the operation of the data system equipment and line circuits,
ensure that all units are powered up and configured normally.
If you want to perform the LLB and RLB tests via the DTE interface pins, ensure
that the ALBE and RLBE sections of the SW3 DIP switch are set to ON (see Figure
2-1 and Table 2-1). The loopback activation via the DTE pins is not available for
the X.21, Ethernet and G.703 interfaces.
